The opening sequence was that of Maharushi Vyasa playing back the scene from the dice game in his mind. All the main characters were there and the gamewas being played in the courtyard of a Muslim Mahal of some sort. I can't be 100% sure but it definitely looked like one of the monuments from Delhi.A Muslim monument in 5500BC? Wow!!
The characters look like they were taken from the Sahas-Bahu TV series. Not one fits the role they are supposed to play. As for the special effects -I've seen my neighbor’s 12-year old do better stuff.
I guess you get the picture so I won't go on and waste your time on Ekta Kapoor’s kahani hamari mahabharat ki. Instead let me dwell on the main theme of this blog - Did Mahabharat really happen?
Based on the celestial positions mentioned by Maharushi Vyasa, Dr. P.V. Vartak has conclusively proved that the Mahabharat war started on 16th OCTOBER 5562 B.C Assuming the date to be correct, does it mean that the Mahabharat war really took place?. Do we have anything left of it to prove that Mahabharat really happened? Is the current city of Hastinapur the same as that in the Mahabharat? OR:
Could it be that Maharushi Vyasa used the occurrence of certain celestial events of his time as the start date for the Mahabharat? Could it be that the Mahabharat was written to help us deferenciate right from wrong, good from evil?
How was the Mahabharat written? It is said that the Mahabharat was put into Maharushi Vyasa's mind by the God's because he was the most capable of creating a poem out of it. Also, it is said that the God's directed Lord Ganesha to go help Maharushi Vyasa. Accordingly, Maharushi Vyasa narrated the Mahabharat almost non-stop and Lord Ganesha wrote it down.
Obviously when Maharushi Vyasa narrated the Mahabharat to Lord Ganesha, he would have used star and planetary positions as well as names of places he was familiar with. In doing so, he ensured that the reader would identify with these places and events and also make it easier to believe in the Mahabharat.
The Mahabharat time-line spans several generations. Obviously, Maharushi Vyasa could not have lived that long. Also, if the Mahabharat did occur there was no need for the Gods to be involved in its writing. Now, if you believe the Mahabharat, then you also have to believe in how it was written i.e. the involvement of the Gods. If the Gods were instrumental in creating it then could we come to the conclusion that the Mahabharat was a story meant to keep our body and mind clean?
Even today, priests of different religions keep writing fictional stories. These stories are not meant to deceive; - they are meant to make us believe in good, to identify right from wrong and make us good humans.
Or did all the fantastic things mentioned in the Mahabharat really happen some 8,300 years ago?.
In Finding The Past Nandita Krishna writes about the archeological work done in search of Krishna. "Iron objects numbering 135, and which included arrow and spearheads, shafts, tongs, hooks, axes and knives indicate the existence of a vigorous industry. There are indications of brick-lined roads and drainage systems, and an agro-livestock based economy. The PGW of Hastinapura has been assigned to 1100-800 BC." Dr. P.V. Vartak however proves beyond doubt that if the Mahabharat really occured, it would have been around 5500BC.
I'd be interested to know what you think.
